Youth Team

2026/27 Season

The ultimate goal is competing at USA Climbing Regionals, Divisionals, and Nationals — though not every athlete starts there. Some join to train and find out where it takes them.

Practices focus on physical, technical, and mental skills. Every member is expected to hold up the team culture. Youth Team climbers lead by example.

Youth Team is Climb Youngstown's youth competitive program for climbers who are ready to train at a higher level.

Youth Team has two teams:

Development Team

Development Team is a climber's introduction to training with a team. Practices build strength, technical skills, and confidence on the wall, with training and fun in the same session. Athletes are welcome to enter competitions, but it isn't required — plenty of climbers start here to train and decide about competing later.

Competitive Team

Competitive Team is for climbers who are ready to take their training and competing further. Practices build strength, technique, problem-solving, and confidence competing. Athletes get to know their teammates well and push each other, and the room stays fun while they do it. This is where climbers work toward Regionals and beyond.

Team Placement

Climbers are placed on Development or Competitive through an annual assessment and the coaches' call. Placement can change year to year as athletes grow. Our upcoming assessment day will be Wednesday, September 9 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM.

A Note on Bouldering and Ropes

We're a bouldering gym, so Y-Team trains and competes in bouldering. We encourage climbers to compete in rope disciplines too — they'd just need to train those elsewhere, and we're glad to point families in the right direction.
